Madico buys Johnson Window Films

Two long-running film brands move under one company, and Johnson's own site now says Madico makes all its film.

The change: Announced January 21, 2026; completed January 30

On January 21, 2026, Madico announced a definitive agreement to acquire Johnson Laminating & Coating and Johnson Window Films. Madico says it will take responsibility for all Johnson Window Film manufacturing, sales, customer service and US and EU operations. Both brands keep their names, and William Davidson continues to lead the Johnson brand under Madico ownership.

Madico itself has been part of Japan's LINTEC Group since 1987, owned through Lintec USA Holding, Inc., so Johnson's film now comes from a LINTEC company.

A joint release on January 30 says Madico "has acquired" Johnson Laminating & Coating and Johnson Window Films. Johnson's own site settles the manufacturing question: its About page now says, "All our window film products are manufactured in the USA by Madico, Inc.," and that its EU sales are made by Madico Europe B.V.

What tinters should watch: Johnson's current automotive data sheets were posted in February and March 2025, before the announcement, so their numbers describe film from before Madico took over making it. When Johnson re-issues its sheets, the database will compare the new numbers to the old ones shade by shade.

What we updated on Mr. Window Tint

Who makes what has a new Madico family: Madico, Inc. with the Madico and Johnson brands.
Johnson's listing in the database now notes that its site says Madico manufactures all its window film, and that its spec sheets predate the change.
The comparison page's "Highest heat numbers" set now counts Madico and Johnson as one company, the way it already counted LLumar, FormulaOne and SunTek as Eastman. The set is now XPEL XR PLUS, Johnson Supreme IR and FormulaOne Stratos.
